I’m Ba-a-a-a-ck from taking time off

I’m back from taking time off. It’s been a while since I last wrote anything new. I was getting overwhelmed between spending all my time writing, plus all the drama surrounding our daily life these days. I had to sit back taking a break. Not sure that I’ll be posting anything like what I did before, but I will attempt to get regular posts up. I note that the blogs I tend to follow are usually much shorter than anything I have written in 2020. Few come out on a daily basis, and those that do, are rarely more than a couple paragraphs in length. We’ll see what I come up with.

That said, what have I been doing? Some reading, of course, not much else. No weaving, no music, little to no geocaching. I have been working some on the garden and I’ll share photos of that soon. But I haven’t even been taking very many photographs. For one thing, my best lens broke, and I don’t have the funds to get it fixed. I have plenty of other lenses, but most work with the smaller sensor cameras I have used in the past and trick my D810 into thinking it’s a small-sensor camera. Not what I had in mind for this point in my life.

I have been baking bread. Really got into baking bread in a cast iron Dutch oven. The loaf above was yesterday’s offering. Swedish Limpa Rye from the Sunset Bread Cookbook. It’s delicious, by the way, and already over half gone. Mercedes gives the recipe I used in her 2009 blog post Desert Candy.

Kevin doesn’t eat rye bread, so this morning I made a loaf of white bread with cracked wheat. Yep, I put a 1/2 cup of wheat berries in the Vitamix, and ground ’em down to use as cracked wheat. Other than that, it’s the standard Sunset Bread Book white bread recipe. Tastes pretty good too, especially slathered with butter. Here is Sunset’s Basic White Bread recipe. I added 1/2 cup semi-ground wheat berries, and baked the dough in a cast iron Dutch oven, rather than in a bread machine. And for more recipes, check out my recipe of the day selection.

Well, that’s all I’m gonna write today. Just felt that with the new month starting, I should kick myself back in gear. Drop me a note to tell me what your feelings are about this new, shorter format. And did you miss me? I promise, I’m back from taking time off.

By the way, Amazon says that the Sunset Bread Book is still available. I love it so much, I have three copies of my own. (All right, I bought one for Momma, but she’s no longer using it, so it made its way back into my collection.) Not sure why I had two copies to start with. If you care to buy your own copy, I get a small cut if you buy it from this link.
