LIA Newsletter 9

Welcome to my LIA Newsletter 9. I’m on the road, so this may be an abbreviated post. And it’s showing up three days late because I’ve had access issues while on the road

New Photos

Indiana Agriculture

Our motel room in Davenport, Iowa had a stunning triptych above the beds showing grain silos similar to the photo above. I was so impressed with the image, I started looking for a way to capture something similar. This scene presented itself in western Indiana. I asked chatgpt what this structure was called, and it told me “grain elevator.” Doesn’t look like that to me, but I’m a city boy. Let me know what you call it.

The Indiana State Capitol

Driving cross country, I’ve made Cousin Ron take side trips so I could capture more state capitols. I already had Montana, Wyoming, and Iowa, so we stopped in Lincoln, Nebraska, Springfield, Illinois, Indianapolis, Indiana, and Columbus, Ohio. The building in Indianapolis was under renovation, with machinery and scaffolding everywhere. The version above has my first edits done, removing heavy equipment. I am continuing to remove the scaffolding, but it’s a long, tedious process, even in Photoshop.

What I’m Up To

On Monday, October 6th, Cousin Ron and I left Plains, Montana and drove to Livingston, Montana where we spent the night. Kevin stayed in Plains with our dogs Simon and Taz and the three million give or take tropical fish.

Tuesday morning, after coffee at True North, Ron and I drove south through the Paradise Valley to drive through the Roosevelt Arch to enter Yellowstone National Park.

Yellowstone and Grand Teton were packed with tourists and it took much longer to get through and we didn’t get to Green River, Wyoming until way after dark.

Day three found us on I 80 driving east across Wyoming and into Nebraska. A night in North Platte, and on across Iowa on Day four.

The original plan called for a marathon drive from Davenport, Iowa all the way to Parkersburg, West Virginia, but I’m not as young as I used to be. New plan: cut the leg in half and stay overnight in Indianapolis.

A look at the Illinois map showed that a side trip to Springfield would add just an hour or so, and I could capture the state capitol with my camera. So that’s what we did.

Day six got us across Ohio, with a brief visit to Columbus (another state capitol building) and on to Ron’s house in Parkersburg before dark.

Today has been mostly a day of rest with family, aside from fighting with my laptop to get this posted, three days late.

Bear with me. I’m off the road so the next issue should be out on time. If you missed last week’s issue, you can read it here. https://bryandspellman.com/lia-newsletter-8

P.S. Somehow the third column, recent sales, has disappeared, and I’m too tired to rebuild it now. Next issue,
