New Photography

These four photos were taken on Thursday, October 16th, when Cousin Ron drove me on a loop around central West Virginia. The state has fifty-five counties and I had visited and photographed fifteen.

What I’m Up To

The biggest thing that happened this past week is that I celebrated my 76th birthday. On Friday, October 17th, my cousin Ron took me out to dinner. On the next day, my cousins threw me the first “family” birthday party I’ve ever had. Fourteen of us gathered at the river, in this case the Little Kanawha in Parkersburg, West Virginia. Eleven cousins, two family friends, and me, the BIRTHDAY QUEEN as my sash read. I grew up and still live over 2000 miles away from my family, so this was the first time I was able to celebrate with blood relatives. It was great fun, and 5 generations of my family were present. I was not the oldest present, and the youngest was three years old.

The other big thing was that on Tuesday, October 21st, I flew home. Well actually I flew from Columbus, Ohio to Kalispell, Montana with a change of planes in Seattle. It was a long, tiring day, and suffice it to say that I leaned I dare not travel by myself any more. Transfers especially were difficult, and like Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire, I had to depend on the kindness of strangers. Guess I’m getting old.
