A Boundary County Barn

The Story Behind The Photo

I photographed this barn in Idaho’s Boundary County while driving across the Northwest with my cousin Ron. I took the photo on January 3rd, 2012. Boundary County got its name because it is the northernmost county in the Idaho panhandle, bordering Washington to its west, Montana to its east, and the Canadian province of British Columbia to its north. Only on its southern line does it connect with the rest of Idaho.  I have written previously about Boundary County, and you can read it here.

Boundary County’s Agriculture

Boundary County, Idaho, is known for its agriculture industry. Located in the northern part of the state, its rural landscape is well-suited to farming and ranching. The county is home to a variety of crops, including potatoes, wheat, and hay. Dairy farming is also an important part of the county’s agriculture industry, with several dairy farms located in the area.

In addition to traditional agriculture, Boundary County is also home to a number of specialty crops. Many local farmers grow hops, used in the production of beer. The county is also home to several fruit orchards, which produce a variety of apples, cherries, and other fruits.

Overall, agriculture plays a significant role in the economy and way of life in Boundary County. The county’s wide open spaces and fertile soil make it an ideal place for farming and ranching, and its strong agricultural community continues to thrive.
