    to create a really good article… but what can I say… I hesitate a lot and don’t seem to get nearly

    • Thank you so much. I just read a book by Jed Jurchenko on writing, and he said, to sum it up, “Writers write!” That’s the key. Just start writing. The more you do, the better it will get, and try to know exactly to whom you are writing. Another of my gurus suggests that you start each day by spending 15 minutes on a creative project, such as writing. Do this before you ever open your e-mail. I find that when I start by telling myself “I’ll just spend 15 minutes on my writing before I have my morning coffee,” I actually end up writing for 30 minutes or even an hour. It’s easy to say, but stop hesitating and start writing. What do you have to lose?

    What a great post presenting Helsinki. Thank you. What comes to churches in Finland, Helsinki do not offer correct answer. In Finland the majority of churches are wooden churches and they are mainly on the countryside. We have some specialties when talking about churches. Our bell towers are separated from churches and to this there is a heavy reason. Inside of our churches we have Votive ships! Most unique are poor-man-statues! I have presented all these in my posts. I did not give here links to my posts, because some blogs put comments including links to Spam folder. This is not good thing because, then may bloggers never get additional information which local bloggers offer. Sigh! Our memorials are most beautiful in the world. They can be found everywhere in my country.

  18. It was great to read about your life with dogs. Just like your Jr. our Stetson had cancer and passed away last year. I wish they would stay with us longer, but that seems to be their only fault. Danny and Ron from the video you shared are amazing! I think one part of the video said they were living with 88 dogs in their house and they promise their dogs they won’t have to go back to the shelter. So cool! Thank you for sharing my site!     • Thank you, Justin. If I read my dashboard correctly, I’m using “Responsive.” Seems like an odd name for a theme, but for the most part, I’m happy with it. I have two quibbles–which probably have more to do with my own ignorance than anything else. On the HOME page, I have to update the date every day. I would think that there’s a way to have it update automatically, but I haven’t figured it out. Also I would like to put a single photo of the day directly below the date, and then have the two extra photos below where there are currently three. Finally, I have been complaining that there is a dark bar underneath the About Montana heading, but that has now gone away. I guess that’s part of the new update of the theme. Hooray! Now if only I could make my comment about the magazine Distinctly Montana link to their on-line publication. All that said, I don’t own the Responsive theme. It’s one of the WordPress.org themes so feel free to use it if you wish.

      I looked at your Royal CBD website and blog and it looks good to me. As a former MMJ provider here in Montana, I applaud your efforts. Take care of yourself and those you cherish in these dark days.

    • Thank you Christine. Yes, language and music–what got me through High School. From Momma saying “Comment allez-vous?” all the way through a PhD in 20th Century French lit. And to this day, I tell people that the one saleable skill I got from Grad School was the ability to type in two languages. 😉

    Enjoyed reading your stories. I asked Alexis if she remembered her stories about Spinach. She had no clue what i was talking about. I loved the fact that you brought back many fond memories of my childhood. Tilden park was a special place. Girl Scouts utilized it well. Remember taking a hike and returning home covered in mud. I assisted as an older Scout with younger Scouts camping over night in the park. I spend one cold night sitting under a tree in a rain storm! My younger days went with the family on Saturdays to grocery shop at Lucky’s. My Father taught me how to drive in the spacious parking lot. I learned to shop in the big department store named Capwells? I attended Peter,Paul and Mary’s concert also. My first big concert and Sandy Folger’s sister had invited me. Thank you Bryan for bringing back the memories.

    • Thank you, Darlene. I spent so many wonderful hours in Tilden Park. I meant to write about it, but somehow that didn’t happen. Your story about sitting under the tree in the rain reminded me of a night camping with Scottish Dance friends on Mount Tamalpais. It didn’t rain, but the fog was so heavy that our sleeping bags were completely soaked by morning. And yet, we had fun, even then. A friend of mine from Missoula moved to the Bay Area to work as an accountant for Capwell’s–and then the Great Big E (the Emporium). I’m glad you enjoyed the post.

We were blessed to have grown up in El Cerrito when we did and privileged to have been young people in the pivotal era of the 60’s–the times they were a changin’.     • I can’t really test Internet Explorer as it is an obsolete program that is no longer being used. I test my posts on Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox and have had no troubles with any of them. My IT guru did test this post on IE (using one of his old, out-of-date laptops) and found it came up just fine. He suggested that if you are having troubles, you should clear your cache and try again. Don’t know what else to suggest, especially since no one I know is still using IE, except for historical purposes.

    • I use wordpress.com for this blog. Note, please, that there is a difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org. In the past, I have had several blogs on blogger or blogspot.com, but my mentors are now recommending wordpress.com. Within wordpress, I use the Responsive theme. Hope this helps. As for coding knowledge, I have studied html in the past, but for the most part, I do not use it, or feel that I need it, with the posts I put out on wordpress. If you have further questions, please feel free to ask and I’ll do my best to get you an answer.

    • I have tested the blog using Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and even the obsolete Internet Explorer. I’ve had no trouble with any of them. The text and pictures come up quickly and clearly, on three different computers, with no delay in loading. (I even tried it on my phone, and had no trouble.) If you are having problems, it may be that you need to clear your cache. Don’t know if that will help, but I really don’t have any other suggestions.

    • The blog and website are my own work, using wordpress.com and the Responsive theme. In the past, I have used blogger/blogspot.com for several different blogs, and I like that platform very much, but my mentors suggested that wordpress.com was the way to go, and I really like working with it. A word of warning though. WordPress.com and wordpress.org are two very different things. I would suggest wordpress.com if you’re just starting out. Hope this helps.

    Hey! I know this is somewhat off topic but I was wondering which blog platform
    are you using for this website? I’m getting sick and

    hackers and I’m looking at alternatives for another platform.

    • This blog uses WordPress.com. I don’t know if you’re using WP.com or WP.org, but they are different. While I haven’t had any problem with hackers, I do get an awful lot of spam, mostly out of Russia, which really slows me down in responding to legitimate queries such as yours. In the past, I have had several blogs on blogger or blogspot.com, and I have always had good luck with them, but I find wordpress.com to be much better for the kind of work I’m doing these days.     • Thank you, Christine. I’ll respond in kind. Never put yourself down wishing you were better at something. The way to become a better writer is to write. That’s the secret. One of my gurus suggested starting each day by writing three pages. I don’t know how many notebooks I have with those three page a day jottings. It’s nothing to think about, just sit down with a notebook and start writing. I have even been known to write, over and over, I have nothing to say, I have nothing to say, I have nothing to say, but somehow, ideas start floating up into my head then down onto the paper. I rarely go back and read what I’ve written. The whole point is to unclog the pipes, as it were. As for using your iPhone’s camera, I am amazed at the cameras available in phones today. I’ve resorted to my phone at times, but I’ve had a camera in my hands most of my life. And with digital photography, it’s all so easy these days. Books–what can I say. They are my first love. I feel the opposite about the kitchen. I like cooking, if I have someone who likes to eat what I cook, but I love to bake. I got up this morning at 4 am with the idea of jotting down a few notes then making the pretzels I talked about in this post. Baking, especially baking bread, is one of my great joys. And as for health, I don’t worry about it, although I probably should. I just need to do a better job of taking care of myself. So with that said, do take care of yourself and let’s figure out a way to get together down the road.

  101. What are some fun things you have done in life, the average person may not have done? One day I wish to paraglide, go up in a hot air balloon, to parasail, and maybe parachute . I have traveled , met famous people, seen wonderful sites, I have worked hard , but never really learned to play . So what has been your dreams to find that childhood joy?

    • What a wonderful suggestion, Treicia. I woke up this morning thinking about topics for future posts and I’ll definitely add this to the list. In fact, I see at least two different posts coming from your suggestion. In keeping with the theme of this post, Five For My Birthday, I can see a post on Five Playtime Activities and Five Amazing Things I’ve Done in my Life. Those are just working titles, but you get the picture. One of the things I love to do is play with the wind. The jacket I wear most often has an embroidered graphic on the back “Catch the Wind.” I have more kites than anyone not a professional kite-flyer needs. In addition, I have a small sail boat that I’ve sailed in Seeley, Salmon, Alva and Inez. I have a sailboard. One time in Mexico I went parasailing and I would absolutely love to go paragliding. No desire whatsoever to jump out of a perfectly good airplane, though. Thanks for the suggestion. Watch for my posts.

        I need to exercise and lose weight to do this. That is why your goals are inspiring me.
        I am wondering where you get your recipes from. Do you have a library of cookbooks? Do you use any of your mother’s recipes?

        • Thanks, Lois, for your very kind comments. As for my recipes, yes to all your questions. I have an extensive library of actual, physical cookbooks. I do use ideas from my mother, not actual recipes because she did not use recipes. But I grew up with her chicken and dumplings, her cornbread, her sourdough white bread, etc, and I try to duplicate them as best I can.     • I cannot tell you how many spam remarks I get. I have no good suggestions for avoiding it. I believe that Aksimet has something that is supposed to control spam, but I haven’t tried it. Most of my spam seems to come out of Russia. Bryan

      • Hi Bryan, You mention sometime using fresh tomatoes in this recipe. Well I have a ton of harvested roma tomatoes. Using canned seems crazy just now! How would you use fresh in this recipe?         • I try to get an equivalent amount. The recipe calls for 29 ounces of canned tomatoes, or roughly 2-15 oz cans. I would use two pounds of fresh tomatoes and maybe increase the liquid slightly. Try it with your romas and decide for yourself how it compares.

    • You got me looking, and unfortunately, I didn’t find much. Apparently, I have a captcha plugin on my site, connected to my contact form, but I can’t see that it’s working. I did a google search, and found several places that talked about adding captcha/reCaptcha to WordPress, but they all talked about WordPresss.org, no wordpress.com. If you are able to find anything, I would love to know about it as I get a lot of spam comments that I’d like to filter out. –Bryan

My first and second grade teachers were the same as yours. My third grade teacher was Miss Wright . . . who was young and pretty and soon to be married. Maybe she became Mrs. Nelson, I’m not sure of her married name. Mrs. Chestnut had quite a reputation for strictness and discipline and learning phoenics. And even though most boys wore crew cuts she could still pull their hair if she found them misbehaving:) What great memories of starting at a small four room schoolhouse walking a mile each way and even walking home for lunch. I looked up the history of this courthouse and discovered the 1st courthouse is located in Puerto de Luna and due to the Northeastern and El Paso railroad, the county seat was moved to Santa Rosa and the remains of the first courthouse remain in Puerto de Luna . The photographer captured the architectural design and historical beauty of this courthouse.

    • Thank you, Vikki. Yes, Puerto de Luna which is roughly ten miles south of Santa Rosa was the original county seat. Supposedly, Coronado named the community when he say the location under the light of the moon while he was searching for the cities of gold. Sounds like I need to visit it myself, when I have more time to spend in New Mexico.
